Four grand concerts featuring world’s best music performers will take place during this year’s Szczecin Plus Music Fest.

“We will soon celebrate our festival for the eighth time. So far, our audience in Szczecin could admire over forty different performers.” – says Dariusz Startek, the organizer of the event. “Our main concept and simultaneously, the primary criterion for selecting artists, is the idea that the festival should help Szczecin become a musical window on the world and thus, familiarise our audience with the music of the world.”

On 18 May  in picturesque springtime scenery of the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle in Szczecin, we will be able to listen to the living legend of Argentinean music, Juan Carlos Caceres, visiting Poland for the first time. The 75-year-old singer, pianist, composer and painter is known as “the South American Paolo Conte” and his tango encompasses a rich variety of styles - candombe, murga, milonga as well as condiments of Africa and Latin America.

The younger generation will be represented by Ayo, a half-Nigerian and half-Romanian singer. “Ayo is a truly multiethnic artist.” – says Dariusz Startek. “She won our hears with the song: Down On My Knees included in the debut album entitled: Joyful awarded the Golden Record sales certification in Poland on the first day of its sales. Her concerts attract record audience all over the world and the tickets sell out many days in advance.” We will be able to listen to Ayo promoting her new album in Szczecin on 15 June.

Also in June the undisputable queen of the world music, beloved and keenly awaited Cesaria Evora, also known as the barefoot diva, will come back to give a concert in Szczecin. Her musical inspirations come from Cabo Verde, Portugal, the Caribbean, Brazil and Cuba. She has recorded 14 albums so far and received many different awards for them, among others, golden and platinum records and the Grammy award for World Music. Her concert will take place in Teatr Letni on 21 June.

Jazz lovers are also in for a real treat, as Szczecin Plus Music Fest will end in a grant finale show of Chris Botti, the most sought-after jazz musician of the recent years. The artist worked with the biggest stars, such as Chaka Khan, Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Jill Scott, Rod Stewart, Dean Martin or Michael Bublé, but he is most famous for his cooperation with Sting. Botti performed during Sting’s concert tour: Brand New Day in 2000 and 2001. His latest album entitled: “Italia” presents fragments of the Italian opera and movie soundtracks.

“We feel extremely proud that this year again we have managed to invite to Szczecin the true stars of world music.” – says Darek Startek. “We have had to go to great lengths to convince them to come, because their schedules are very busy and they give concerts all over the world. All the more so, we are happy that the inhabitants of our town will be able to admire their talents during live concerts.”
